I am the proud owner of a full size Maestro Cello and Pernambuco Cello Bow, both by Sandu Stroe.
The cello is truly beautiful, a work of art, and importantly too, it has an amazing sound; rounded, warm, vibrant and it is very reactive in all registers.
The cello was hand made from start to finish by Mr Stroe specifically for me and I have photos of his work on the cello from the white phase to completion.
The cello is a professional quality instrument, and very reasonably priced for such quality.
It came with a certificate of authenticity, which includes photos, and has an internal label.
I am confident in saying that anyone owning such an instrument, whether it be one of Mr Stroe’s hand made violins, violas or cellos, could not fail to be impressed, encouraged to play and so do the instrument justice.
The pernambuco octagonal bow is truly beautiful too. Lovely wood, perfectly curved with excellent hair and the most elegant of frogs (talon) and screw/ button. The bow is exceptionally well made, well balanced and very easy to handle. It also certainly enhances the tone of the cello. It’s high quality is evident.
Mr Stroe is a skilled luthier, passionate about his work and also about giving the best possible service to those who buy his instruments.
I highly recommend Sandu Stroe. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks to Liz at Elida Violins I am now the very happy owner of a most wonderful full size Maestro Cello and Pernambuco Cello Bow, both created by the European Maker Stroe Sandu mentioned on the Elida Violin website under the title Violins - Superior Professional European Instruments.
Honestly from our first contact Sandu could not have been more helpful, more kind nor more professional.
After choosing the basic white box I chose the colour/varnish style I wanted from photo examples of his work and from then on Sandu was in touch at least twice weekly with updates, photos and videos of the work as it progressed – the addition of the neck and scroll, the complicated varnishing process, addition and modification of the fingerboard, pegs, bridge and final set up etc. He also gave me the choice of strings to used. He sent photos of the package containing the cello before it began its long journey from Reghin to SW France and I was able to track its progress. The transport took over a week but we both followed its journey. A very precious package!
I could not be happier with my wonderful cello and Pernambuco bow from Sandu
I have this violin for just over a week and am delighted it. It plays easily with a lovely rich, mellow sound that is very even all over the range. High positions on all for strings are no trouble at all and teh E string sings all the way to the top. The violin feels very comfortable under the hand and under the chin, and the fingerboard is properly 'shot' (i.e. shaped and scooped) so that intotation is consistent under the fingers. It came with Tonica strings (similar to Dominants) and a Wittner tailpiece. For me, sound and playing quality are more important than appearance, but this instrument also looks gorgeous with its close-grained front and beautifully flamed back, finished with a moderately dark varnish.

We've bought this professional violin for our daughter who is working towards her Grade 4. Our daughter is extremely happy with her new vioilin because it looks absolutely beautiful and souns wonderfully mellow.
Beautiful violin
I bought my brand new, beautiful Sandu Stroe violin a few months ago now - a very much higher class of instrument than I'm used to. It looks gorgeous: a rich, flamed maple with ebony accessories and a one-piece back. It sounds gorgeous, too with a beautiful, deep resonance: a very impressive instrument that a violinist can make sing - my teacher was very impressed, and I'm working to be worthy of it.
Gorgeous
This is a superb master level violin. It looks gorgeous and sounds marvelous. The tone is very professional; it is clear and beautiful, especially on the e and e strings. It resonates very well too. The sound is getting even better after I purchased two weeks ago. I am currently working on Grade 7 but have no doubt this violin will take me through higher grades. I had tried at least 30 violins from various shops for the last two months and this one was the best of the best with a lot of charcters.
